Overcoming Challenges in Private Hospitals: Insights from Dr. Hadar Shechter Marom and Daniel Rabina

In an evening that offered a rare insight into the challenges and potential solutions facing private healthcare, Dr. Hadar Shechter Marom, Director General of Assuta’s Ramat Hachayal Hospital, and Mr. Daniel Rabina, Chief Innovation Officer of Assuta Medical Centers, as well as RISE Managing Director, sat down for an insightful fireside chat. The discussion spanned several topics, each one as pertinent as the next, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the issues at hand.

In case you missed it, we are pleased to share the central challenges that brilliant innovators like you can help us solve.

Central Challenges Unveiled

Quality and Control
– Both Dr. Marom and Mr. Rabina emphasized that maintaining high-quality medical care is not a simple task at a complex hospital like Assuta Ramat HaHayal. Hospital management must create and maintain oversight, quality control measures, and procedures that support the teams and physicians. This goes from operational decisions (such as operating room schedules) and extends to meticulous planning and ongoing supervision of patient care. One example is our continuous efforts to improve patient assessment before procedures, with the aim of improving surgical decision-making.

Operational Hurdles – The discussion also touched on the intricate balancing act between fulfilling organizational objectives and meeting governmental indicators.
A private healthcare system should always be balanced on three pillars:

  • Medical – meeting the highest standard of care and providing the best medical services to patients.
  • Service – creating patient-centric services and providing a patient experience of the highest standard.
  • Economics – as a private organization that is not backed by government funding, operating in a financially responsible manner is critical.

Facing these challenges, hospitals must maximize infrastructure use while tackling fluctuating daily workloads and managing long post-operative stays—a tall order indeed.

Human Resources – The pandemic’s aftermath continues to impact staff availability. There’s a notable manpower shortage, compounded by high staff turnover, particularly among younger employees who frequently switch roles. This trend hits hospitals at various organizational levels, causing a vast loss of knowledge and operational struggles.

New Trends and Innovation – The fireside chat concluded with an eye towards the future. Leading private healthcare organizations must continuously evaluate themselves at all levels to stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive. Which procedures are becoming more costly due to new materials or methods? What positions require greater supervision and training? How can we identify emerging medical and technological trends and build new services? These are all issues we are happy to discuss with potential partners, for the benefit of both sides.

Where Do We Go From Here?

The session wasn’t just about outlining problems; it was also about fostering dialogue on solutions. After the chat, participants had the opportunity to engage with RISE and Assuta personnel to discuss venture or technology-specific concerns that promise to lead to real-world solutions down the line.

While identifying key challenges facing private healthcare is critical, at RISE, we seek to tackle them head-on. We were proud to offer attendees an unparalleled chance to align their ventures with the needs and directions of an evolving healthcare landscape.
