Celebrating Two Years of RISE: A Journey of Vision, Growth and Impact

By Daniel Rabina,
RISE’s Managing Director and Co-founder

This month marks two years since we’ve established RISE. From a modest beginning, our vision of implementing novel medical technologies in clinical practice has relentlessly evolved. Over these two years, we’ve witnessed technology, patient care and medical innovation merge at Assuta, setting new technology-driven standards of care for Assuta and other healthcare systems.

Before beginning this blog, I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Michal Guindy, Co-Founder and Former Head of RISE, for her crucial role in making it all happen.
Even now, Guindy’s spirit remains our team’s guiding compass, assisting us greatly in keeping the boat sailing the right direction.

Delving into the blog itself – At the heart of our journey lie RISE’s core values, serving as the force and backbone of our work: Collaboration, Agility, Integrity and Practical Innovation.

The process of building successful medical technologies growingly becomes a multidisciplinary task, that requires a variety of stakeholders to collaborate on a shared goal. Such Collaborations, requires industry and academic partnerships with hospitals, for creating significant innovative clinical applications that can operate in real world settings.

RISE had built in the last two years partnerships with leading VCs like Alive and LionBird, as well as with technology giants like Amazon Web Services and Nvidia, all fueling our progress. Through our esteemed partnerships, we accelerate the clinical, business and product development of new solutions, as well as their implementation at Assuta and on a global scale.

Innovative collaborations require us to deliver while keeping our Agility and Integrity. Steering complex projects with many unknown-unknowns requires leadership characterized with flexibility, adaptability and willingness to fail fast. This can’t be done without us showing fairness and transparency to our partners, while keeping meticulous management through every milestone of each project’s collaborative roadmap.

Most importantly, RISE marked Practical Innovation as a core value since its inception. We identify technologies that are relevant to Assuta and aim to become their early adopters, serving as their initial clinical site.

The RISE team achieved major milestones thanks to staying committed to our core values, and here are some examples:

Rise with Us

In collaboration with an outstanding group of partners, we launched two successful cohorts of Rise With US, a program for startups looking to make it in the US healthcare market. 11 companies from the program are now in collaboration with Assuta.

Clinical AI at Scale

RISE collaborates with a variety of companies and R&D teams on development and deployment of AI driven tools at Assuta. We couldn’t do it without great collaborations with Assuta’s clinicians and IT, which ensure we build products matching Assuta’s needs and capabilities. We now run four clinical AI solutions in large scales, which are becoming the new standard of care at Assuta.

3D SURGICAL CENTER

We’ve established a 3D Surgical Center at Ramat HaHayal, leveraging 3D simulation, 3D anatomical models, customized surgical jigs and personalized implants for the benefit of our surgeons and patients.

Smart Hospitals

Rise aims to reshape hospital foundations by integrating medical, innovation and IT into their design and operation. Assuta is building two new Smart Hospitals at Beer Sheva and Rishon Lezion with an aim to cultivate a new digital experience by incorporating IOT, system integrations and organizational efficiency. RISE plays a crucial role in this strategic act, as a gateway between Assuta and innovative industries.

Genie

RISE launched Genie – an innovative genetic testing service at Assuta, for individuals with no pre-existing health conditions. This is the future of healthcare, using omics technologies for early detection and prevention. Genie assists healthy individuals to identify their own personal risk of developing preventable medical conditions in the future and provide genetic consultation to the ones who need it.

Digital Pathology

We’ve built a complete digital workflow at Patholab, including a large throughput HD scanner, a macro tissue camera and a structured reporting app. We’re now starting to implement AI tools in this workflow, allowing a jump in our operations efficiency and quality of diagnosis. These infrastructures are leading our lab towards the future of pathology diagnostics.

What’s Next?

Our world changes rapidly from the volatile world of VUCA of the last decades to an incomprehensible world of BANI. Innovation is becoming crucial for a hospital to survive in this evolving reality. Again, we believe that Collaboration, Agility, Integrity and Practical Innovation would be the key.

Riding the Waves in the Rough Sea of Private Hospitals

Private hospitals face significant swirls and rapid changes.

This is true to Israel as well, as our sector doesn’t have public funding or buffers protecting it from its ever changing operational hurdles and market demands.

It is crucial for us to navigate the currents and ride the waves of change.

Riding the waves is what we call innovation. It is the new normal, it is a mindset rather than a task to complete.

Looking ahead, we’re eager to continue expanding the frontiers of medical innovation together with our partners. In the coming year, we will emphasize our focus on Omics for Precision Medicine, Digital Pathology, Endoscopy, Robotics, Smart Hospitals and Home Care.

This year will be full of potential and we have much to anticipate for the opportunities the future holds!
